First cousins have the same grandparents as other members of your family. They are the children of your aunts and uncles. They are essentially your extended family. A first cousin test determines the probability that two individuals are indeed cousins by analysing a number of DNA markers that are inherited and determining how many of these markers they have in common.
Results may vary between 1% and 99% accuracy with a probability greater than 80% considered as strong proof of relatedness and a probability less than 20% considered as strong proof of non relatedness.
The turnaround time for this test is 5 working days. This test can be used for personal or legal purposes.
Alternatively a Y STR test can be performed if the cousins are male.
