Y STR TESTING

Y STR testing can determine if two or more male individuals are related through their paternal line. The Y chromosome is only passed on by the father at conception and remains relatively unchanged from generation to generation. If you are related to your father you will have the same Y STR profile. If you are not related along the paternal line then your Y STR profile will be different.

As a result this type of test can be used to establish biological relationships. If Y STR’s are tested between two siblings who are boys, you can establish if a biological relationship exists between the two. Similarly if a male child and his uncle are tested, their Y-STR profiles should match. If they do not, then the uncle is excluded and the alleged father is probably not the biological father of this child.
Y STR tests can be used if the father is not available for testing. If the father if deceased and a brother is available he can be used to establish a biological relationship.

Data from this analysis can also be used to do genealogical studies. Individuals can do searches against Y STR databases to see how their profile relates to other populations.

Tests can be performed by using a personal test or a legal test. Both tests would require participation from the two or more questioned parties.

Turnaround time for this test is 7 working days
